AIX Arkitekter has unveiled the Järvabadet Swimming Pool Pavilion, a transformative project aimed at enhancing swimming skills and fostering community inclusivity in the Järva area of Stockholm. The outdoor swimming facility comprises two practice pools, a main swimming pool, a children’s pool, and a splash section. Additionally, it features changing rooms, staff facilities, technology buildings, and a cafe. Commissioned by the city of Stockholm and situated adjacent to Eggeby farm—also owned by the city—the pools seamlessly integrate into the cultural reserve known as Järvafältet, emphasizing architectural harmony with the natural surroundings.
Integrating with the Environment
AIX Arkitekter’s design prioritizes seamless integration with the natural environment, respecting the scale and form of the surrounding landscape. While aligning with the aesthetic of Eggeby farm, the swimming pavilion distinguishes itself through its materiality and architectural expression. Transparency, equality, and safety were central considerations throughout the design process, fostering a dialogue-driven approach with the client to ensure community needs were met.
Addressing Community Needs
The vision for an outdoor swimming facility at Järvafältet dates back to the 1970s, coinciding with the development of surrounding districts such as Tensta, Rinkeby, Akalla, Husby, and Kista. These areas are home to socio-economically disadvantaged groups with limited access to leisure activities and swimming facilities. The project seeks to bridge these gaps by providing accessible swimming opportunities and addressing the low swimming proficiency rates among children and young people in the region. By offering a safe and inclusive space for recreation and skill development, the Järvabadet Swimming Pool Pavilion aims to positively impact the well-being of residents in the surrounding districts.

In realizing this transformative project, AIX Arkitekter collaborates closely with LAND landscape architects, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise to create a holistic and enriching experience for the community. Together, they envision the Järvabadet Swimming Pool Pavilion as more than just a recreational facility—it’s a catalyst for social empowerment and community engagement, embodying the spirit of unity and opportunity for all.
