The ice skating rink by the sea at the Sevkabel space PORT represents a small-scale seasonal endeavor within the broader transformation of the historic Sevkabel manufactory territory on Vasilyevsky Island.
The rink’s design is influenced by its seaside location and industrial surroundings. The nearly rectangular ice surface is snugly positioned between the fence and the pre-existing industrial building.
In the heart of the rink, preserved trees create a circular island, naturally dividing the ice into multiple zones. At ground level, the ice field seamlessly integrates with the existing building, housing rental and locker rooms.
To maintain access to the embankment from within the complex, a bridge spans over the ice exit, connecting various areas of Sevkabel PORT. Additionally, it serves as a viewing platform, offering panoramic views of the skating rink and the picturesque sea.
The materials and structures employed are straightforward yet efficient. Wooden pine planks clad the external structures, while the interior of the rental pavilion, once part of the factory hall, features corrugated galvanized iron, preserving the original workshop texture. Bright neon infographics provide a striking contrast to the rink’s understated architecture.
