Childhood Friends Turned Entrepreneurs: The Story of Twisting Scoops

Kunwarpreet Singh Juneja and Manmeet Singh Batra, childhood friends turned business partners, have captured attention with their innovative ice cream venture, Twisting Scoops. As participants on Season 2 of Shark Tank India, they showcased their journey of introducing Turkish ice cream made from goat milk to the Indian market.

A Unique Twist in the Ice Cream Industry

Established in 2016, Twisting Scoops stands out for its captivating presentation of ice cream. The founders coined the term “entertainment with food,” as their servers engage customers with elaborate performances while preparing and serving the ice cream cones. Claiming to be Asia’s first and largest Turkish ice cream brand chain, Twisting Scoops has expanded its presence from Chandigarh to various cities across India.

With a team of 240 employees, Juneja and Batra have streamlined operations, even partnering with Air India Cargo to ensure timely stock delivery from their Delhi plant to all outlets nationwide.

From Concept to Reality

Juneja and Batra, both in their early twenties, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey after being inspired by Turkish ice cream during a trip to Istanbul. Armed with youthful enthusiasm and a desire to innovate, they ventured into uncharted territory, establishing Twisting Scoops as their maiden business endeavor.

Their stores offer a diverse range of ice cream flavors, served in three formats: kiosks, stores, and carts, with prices starting at ₹79. Despite facing initial challenges with franchise operations, the founders transitioned to company-owned stores in 2021 to maintain quality standards.

Navigating the Shark Tank

During their pitch on Shark Tank India, the founders impressed the panel with their meticulous approach and robust business model. Despite offers from potential investors, including Aman Gupta of boAt and Peyush Bansal of Lenskart, Juneja and Batra remained steadfast in their commitment to maintaining autonomy and integrity in their business dealings.

While the sharks recognized the potential for collaboration, they ultimately respected the founders’ decision to decline investment offers, acknowledging their self-reliance and ethical principles.

Looking Ahead

Twisting Scoops’ journey on Shark Tank India highlighted the resilience and determination of its founders, who remain committed to upholding their values amidst temptations of external funding. As pioneers in introducing authentic Turkish ice cream to India, Juneja and Batra continue to chart their course, driven by a passion for innovation and a dedication to providing memorable culinary experiences.

While their refusal of investment offers may have surprised some, it underscores their unwavering commitment to building a sustainable and socially responsible business model. As Twisting Scoops continues to thrive, Juneja and Batra serve as inspirations for aspiring entrepreneurs, demonstrating that success is achievable through integrity, hard work, and a steadfast vision.
